The "Garden From the Ground Up" Organic Community Garden is an organic, community-driven garden located in Chesterfield Valley (18350 Chesterfield Airport Road Chesterfield, MO), behind the Fine Arts Studio/Gallery just past the Spirit of St. Louis Airport. This garden began with a desire to experience, literally, food from the ground up. Jack Scharr of Fine Arts Limited, has generously allowed us to use a portion of his land to grow our garden; from this fertile ground we are able to plant, maintain and harvest our own food.
After two years of experience and trying different layouts in the garden, we are going to proceed this way:
We are going to have Individual Plots - these may be shared and two plots can be shared between several members as well.
We will have a Row for the Hungry to be maintained by those members who volunteer their time to grow food for those who have little access to fresh food.
We will have a small community section for those members who wish to grow certain crops together. It is not mandatory to participate in the community section.
Members will be responsible for keeping the walkways and area around their garden neat, clean and maintained, along with their garden plots.
We will have several gardening classes for those members who are beginners and desire some guidance in how to grow their garden.
